BBD can provide benefits for groups with as few as two employees, and up to more than 100. Flexibility and cost containment are characteristics of all BBD benefits plans, as is service and sustainability.

Almost a quarter of Benefits by Design’s current groups are large employers providing health coverage and financial security to 100 or more employees. Typical designs for large employer benefits plans are outlined below.

Benepac®

BENEPAC®

An innovative group insurance benefits package designed specifically for small and mid-size businesses. Offering a wide variety of coverage options, Benepac® gives you the competitive edge when offering group benefits to your clients.

Our traditional Benepac® plans are made up of extended health, dental, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment, critical illness and disability insurance.

Comprehensive Benepac® plans may also include boutique benefits like: diagnostic specialist access insurance, employee assistance plan and/or a health care spending account.

Benaccount®

BENACCOUNT®

Catastrophic coverage combined with a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) covers unpredictable medical expenses like prescription drugs, accidental dental, hospital, and emergency travel. Eligible expenses are reimbursed at 100% to the stated max.

Employees use their HCSA for what they need and as approved by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Eligible drug and medical expenses go toward satisfying the deductible, and employees can choose to pay the necessary deductible either from their HCSA funds or directly from their own pocket.

Benaccount® is available to groups of three or more employees on a standalone basis, or combined with Benepac® pooled benefits.

ADMINISTRATED SERVICES ONLY (ASO)

No HR team? No problem! With a Benefits by Design Administrated Services Only (ASO) plan we perform all administrative functions required to provide a benefits plan. Commonly referred to as a “self-insured” product, ASO allows employers the freedom to run their business without worrying about administering the benefits they offer.

COST PLUS BENEFIT PLANS

Employers can provide health and dental benefits to employees on a tax-free basis. Benefits can be to provide additional coverage above and beyond a standard group plan.

Claim eligibility is adjudicated by Benefits by Design (BBD) via an easy-to-use platform (including mobile and electronic transactions for claiming and reimbursement). Coverage can include plan members and their dependents, and employers offering this are entitled to tax deductions for the full amount paid out to employees including any administration fees and applicable taxes.

Platform: myHSA (web and mobile app used to administer/adjudicate). 

Benana®

BENANA®

Benana® stands for Benefits and Administrative Solutions, and it’s how Benefits by Design supports large employers (100+ employees) with complex benefits needs. Our status as a third-party administrator lets us administer groups with multiple suppliers, multiple billing divisions, and multi-employer association plans. Benana® facilitates the needs for an organization to their best-suited suppliers. When (or if) a company’s needs or carrier relationships change, Benana® empowers a group to change carriers without the requirement to re-enroll, saving time and money.

ASSOCIATION PLANS

Member of a trade or professional association? Benefits by Design (BBD) can provide specially designed coverage in the comprehensive package for members of an association and can work with association clients to help market and successfully implement a group benefits plan.

Association plans are flexible, sustainable, and customized for the industry/members being covered. Administration is handled by BBD, saving member groups time and letting them focus on what they do best.

MRI

DIAGNOSTIC SPECIALIST ACCESS INSURANCE (DSAI)

A boutique benefit providing expedited access (three or four days versus current average of 21) to diagnostic exams (MRI and CT scans) and/or consultations with specialists in Canada.

  • No medical underwriting or evidence of insurability required
  • Employees are eligible to age 74 and coverage terminates on the last day of the month in which the insured reaches age 75

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PLAN (EAP)

Enhanced programs provide employee assistance via access to accredited professionals for things like family challenges, work-related difficulties, personal problems, addiction/dependency concerns, and eldercare issues.

  • Private telephonic or face-to-face professional counselling for legal, financial, or nutritional issues.
  • Services provided for employees and their dependents.

STANDALONE®

Standalone® is our product solution for employers looking for flexible options to meet their employee’s benefit needs. Our Standalone® product allows employers to design a Health Care Spending Account* (HCSA), Wellness Spending Account (WSA), or a combination of HCSA and WSA, by allocating a set amount of money to each employee.

Regardless of the plan, our Standalone® products feature:
